Description
Amoxil 500mg tablets are a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic containing amoxicillin as the active ingredient. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, leading to the destruction of susceptible bacteria. Amoxil is prescribed for a variety of infections, including:
- Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis)
- Ear, nose, and throat infections (otitis media, tonsillitis, pharyngitis)
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Dental infections and other conditions caused by susceptible bacteria.
Prescription Use: Amoxil is available only with a prescription. Dosage and duration depend on the infection type, severity, and patient factors. Completing the full prescribed course is essential, even if symptoms subside, to prevent antibiotic resistance.
Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with a known allergy to penicillin, cephalosporins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, or rash. Severe allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis) are rare but require immediate medical attention. Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment or a history of gastrointestinal diseases.
